Zilker Botanical Gardens

September 4, 2017

 

Zilker Botanical Gardens is a nonprofit organization whose vision is to promote education and love for gardening. Volunteers will assist the staff in the Horticulture program by helping maintain the botanical garden, identifying and getting rid of invasive species and will learn about propagation techniques. Make a difference with PSP on September 4,2017.

 

Austin Children's Museum

Austin’s children museum is dedicated to creating innovative learning experiences to inspire the next generations, including a program called STEAM on the Spot. On October 28th ,2017, volunteers will have to opportunity to share their creativity, excitement and STEM knowledge to the Museum visitors through a series of demonstrations, activities, and performances.

 

Central Texas Food Bank

November 11, 2017

 

Striving to end world hunger, the Central Texas Food Bank organizes and puts together packed food which is to be delivered to those children and families in need. PSP members will be able to volunteer in different sections of the food bank such as the Mobile Food pantry, the Community Kitchen, the Warehouse and the Nutritional Education program. Join us November 11, 2017 and make a positive impact in your community.

 

Longhorn Light's Out

Last school year, PSP members contributed to the UT community by helping conserve energy and water on campus through the Longhorns Lights Out Program. Volunteers reduced energy by turning lights off, powering down computer equipment and unplugging unnecessary electronics across the university's campus. We will be continue to be part of this event and will announce our participation in the newsletter.

 

Girl Day

February 24, 2018

 

Introduce a Girl to Engineering is an international event during Engineers week in which UT invites elementary and middle school students to explore engineering. Students can broaden their horizons by experiencing interactive demonstrations and by participating in hands-on STEM activities such as Wind-mill building and the Toothpick Tower Challenge. Want to volunteer? Join PSP February 24,2018 and be part this amazing outreach event.

 

Explore UT

March 3, 2018

 

Explore UT is an open house event in which the Cockrell school of engineering hosts hands-on activities, and displays activities all the way from the latest solar powered vehicles to the reverse engineering of toys. Last school year, PSP members presented a hands-on Wind-mill building activity and the students learned about different types of energy, how electricity was developed and the design of propeller-like blades. Join us again at this engaging and fun event March 3, 2018.

 

YES/LTE Day

Young Engineers and Scientists (YES) Day and LiberationThrough Education (LTE) Day are outreach events we host at the end of every semester. Middle school students are invited to visit the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin to learn about various STEM Fields and to receive information about the importance of a higher education. Student volunteers teach visiting middle schools about the different majors in engineering and engage them in an engineering challenge competition where they have to work in teams. YES and LTE Day are designed to excite young students about engineering with a hands-on approach and motivate them to pursue a college education.
